Pizza night is a family favorite in our household, and using the Blackstone griddle has taken our pizza-making game to a whole new level. If you have a Blackstone, you know how easy it is to whip up delicious meals right in your backyard or, in our case, at the campground since we travel with ours (we have the Blackstone 22” Tabletop Griddle.) Here is our go-to method for making homemade pizza that everyone in the family can enjoy.

Preparing the Griddle

Before diving into the fun part of topping your pizza, let's discuss the griddle. Seasoning is key! A well-seasoned griddle ensures your pizza doesn’t stick or burn, allowing for an easy and enjoyable cooking experience. Preheat your griddle to 350°F and 400°F. Using a cooking thermometer can help you find that perfect heat level.

Crafting the Perfect Pizza

One of the best parts of making pizza at home is the freedom to get creative with toppings. Recently, I made a pizza featuring arugula, prosciutto, pear, banana peppers, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It may sound fancy, but it’s all about using what you have on hand! My husband and son love meat lovers' pizzas, while my daughter prefers hers with light cheese. Whatever your family enjoys, you can customize the pizza to accommodate everyone’s tastes—a true win-win for pizza night!

Cooking the Pizza

Once your griddle is preheated, it’s time to get cooking! For the pizza crust, we prefer using thin premade crusts. We often use Golden Home Pizza Crust, Handcrafted, Ultra Thin, but the Kroger brand also has a great option. Feel free to choose your favorite crust!

Place your pizza dough on the griddle using a pizza peel or large spatula, then cover it with a griddle lid. Depending on the thickness of your dough, it usually takes about 3-5 minutes to cook the bottom. After that, lift the dome and check to see if the bottom is cooked through. If it’s not ready, let it cook for another minute or so.

Once the base is cooked, it’s time to flip it! Lower the heat and evenly spread your sauce over the crust. Next, layer on your veggies, followed by your choice of protein—chicken works great! Finish off with generous amounts of mozzarella and cheddar cheese.

Final Touches

Now, let’s get that cheese melting! Set your griddle temperature to 375°F, cover the pizza with a dome, and let it cook for about 7-10 minutes. Keep an eye on it; the goal is to have the cheese perfectly melted and the crust crispy without burning the top.

After about 7 minutes, check the pizza. If the cheese has melted and the crust looks a nice golden brown, it’s time to remove it. If not, give it a few extra minutes.

Making pizza on a Blackstone griddle is not just about the final product; it’s also about the family time spent together creating something delicious. The versatility of toppings and the ease of cooking make it a fun activity for everyone, whether it’s a cozy night in or a lively gathering.
